Bansko lies at the foot of the Pirin mountains, about 160 kilometres south of Sofia. There is no airport and no motorway all the way — but getting here is easy once you know which option suits what.
By car from Sofia
About 160 km, two hours in normal conditions. Take the Struma motorway to Simitli, then turn off through Razlog. The stretch after Simitli is mountain road and can be snow-covered in winter — winter tyres are compulsory from 15 November to 1 March, and chains in the boot are not a bad idea.
The alternative through Samokov and the Predela pass looks shorter on the map but is slower and less predictable in winter.
From Sofia Airport
About 170 km, 2 hours 15 minutes. The hotel arranges transfers to and from Sofia Airport — if you land in the evening or travel with ski luggage, this is usually both cheaper and calmer than finding a taxi on arrival. Write to us in advance with your flight number.
By bus
Regular coaches leave Sofia Central Bus Station several times a day, more often during the ski season. The journey takes about 3 hours. Bansko bus station is a ten-minute walk from the hotel.
By train — the narrow gauge
Bansko is a station on the Septemvri – Dobrinishte narrow-gauge line, the only one of its kind in Bulgaria. It is not a fast way to arrive (around five hours from Septemvri), but it is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in the Balkans — worth doing one way if you have a spare day.

- Thessaloniki — about 200 km via the Kulata/Promachonas border crossing, roughly 3 hours
- Skopje — about 200 km, roughly 3 hours
- Plovdiv — about 150 km, around two and a half hours
Once you are here: do you need a car
No. The hotel is 500 metres from the Gondola — a ten-minute walk, ski boots and all. The centre of Bansko with its taverns and old quarter is also ten minutes away. The hotel has parking if you do drive.
